Get Ready for Summer- Three Hour Block Party Ribs

   With our impending move to Arizona we have been staying with my parents these past few weeks. My mom is an awesome cook, and before I left I asked her to teach me how to make her awesome baby back ribs. When I get to Gilbert I am going to need to impress all our new friends with my BBQ skills.

  Her ribs are surprisingly easy to make. They are the perfect dinner to throw in the oven, head off to your Three Hour Block of church, and come home to a meal ready to slap on the table. Or you can grab a knife and separate the ribs and serve them at your Summer Block Party.

With the Price Increase, is Disneyland Still Worth it?

   Recently, Disneyland “adjusted” their prices. A lot of people were up in arms about the increase. I wrote to Disney and asked them what justified the price change and in response they invited me to come visit the park as their guest to see for myself.

   Disneyland has always had a special place in my heart. When I was young my grandma would take all the grandkids to Disneyland every summer. I was scared of a lot of the rides so I actually spend a lot of time with her as she watched us from the sidelines in her wheelchair. I asked her once, “Grandma, does it ever make you sad that you can’t go on the rides?” “Gradypoo,” she responded, “seeing your smiling face and knowing I put it there is all the happiness I need.” Grandma has been passed away for nine years now, but this is a lesson I have never forgotten and tried to honor on our adventure at the Magic Kingdom.

Quality:

   My maternal grandfather was supposed to be a fighter pilot during World War II until he started eliminating the wrong targets during training.  Turns out that although he had excellent vision, he was color blind and could not distinguish between red targets and green friendlies!  I was lucky enough it get his keen eyesight, yet also his colorblindness.  I really don’t need glasses except for at night to enhance my depth perception, but they aren't requisite.

   My son Garren on the other hand got my fraternal grandfather’s vision and he is blind as a bad we learned a few years ago.  We took him to the optometrist and got his first pair of glasses.  He looked pretty good.  About this same time we learned that Garren also has Asperger’s Syndrome.  We wrote a little more about that here.  Part of the behaviors associated with Asperger’s is difficulty in certain social or environmental situations.  When Garren was having a hard time he would cope by pulling his glasses frames.

If you have ever read any of our Music Reviews, you know that we love good music.  What you might not know is that in my day job I'm a window cleaner.  Sometimes I am on a long job and want some music to keep me entertained.  I am real big on being professional, and there is just a negative connotation with a serviceman with headphones on. It just makes me think of Sid (The Trash Guy) in Toy Story 3 banging mail boxes and trash cans.

  So a weeks ago I bought an A2DP Bluetooth Headset.  That is a wireless headset that lets you listen to music.  I chose the gblue C5. It looks and acts like regular Bluetooth headset, so I look like a professional.  It also plays music so I can keep up my pace and listen to music, review General Conference, or enjoy the latest edition of The Cultural Hall Podcast.

   The headset works great.  One of my favorite features is that it comes with a plug in headphone, so you can use it in both ears. (for when I'm off the clock.)  It was charged and ready to go right out of the box, and I was able to pair it pretty easily and use the buttons to switch songs.  It can also be used for phone calls.  Answering and redial was simple, but I could not get it to activate Siri, like on my other headsets.   

   The few buttons do multiple tasks so you will need to read the manual, and the audio quality is not the finest, but at under $16 you certainly get more than you paid for!
