I’m Going Back to School!

   One of the points of regret in my life was that I never completed college.  I got married 11 months off my mission in 2002 and always worked in hospitality or retail management.  The crazy hours of a salaried retail employee made it extremely difficult to do well in school.  Plus I was making great money and didn’t think it was a huge priority when compared to spending time with my wife, kids, and video games.  So I stopped going after a few semesters.

   During the General Priesthood session of October 2006 Gordon B. Hinckley gave the talk, Rise Up, O Men of God.  It is one of my favorite talks because he talks about slouchy dress, using the internet for good, and improving our lives.  He said, “I call your attention to another matter that gives me great concern. In revelation the Lord has mandated that this people get all the education they can. He has been very clear about this.”

42 (2013): Mormon Movie Review

Quality:  
  My first thought when I left the theatre today was, I just saw the first Best Picture Nominee of 2013.  On Jackie Robinson Day I went to see 42.  42 tells the story of Jackie Robinson as the first black player in professional baseball. 
   I wasn’t alive for the days of segregation, but seeing it portrayed so well was inspiring and heartbreaking.  It makes it real for a generation that was lucky enough to never experienced racism of this degree. 

The Celebrity Doppelganger Game

   When my friend Spencer and I used to sit together at OCMCO, (Orange County Mormon Choral Organizations) we used to play a game when the Director was working with other sections.  We are Tenors so we don’t need much individual work. Ha!  We would look around the choir and look for people who resembled celebrities.  We found a Richard Dreyfus, a Reece Witherspoon, and just after he moved to Utah I found a Gemma Arterton.  (He’s single all you Utah ladies)

Scream marathon!

• Scream (1996) - Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich, Rose McGowan
  Horror maven Wes Craven -- paying homage to teen horror classics such as Halloween and Prom Night -- turns the genre on its head with this tale of a murderer who terrorizes hapless high schooler Sidney Prescott by offing everyone she knows.
• Scream 2 (1997) - David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox
  Gale has written a best-seller which has been turned into a film. As the movie premiere looms closer, the mysterious deaths begin again.
• Scream 3 (2000) - David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox
  This installment of the tongue-in-cheek horror trilogy finds Sidney Prescott once again battling a crazed killer -- this time, on a movie set.
• Scream 4 (2011) - Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox
  Perennial survivor Sidney Prescott, now a successful self-help author, returns to her hometown of Woodsboro in the fourth act of the Scream franchise.

  During a stop at a remote cabin deep within the woods, a group of teens begins turning into flesh-eating zombies in director Sam Raimi's cult classic.

New to Watch Instantly on Netflix - 4.1.13

Ranked by year (not by enjoyability), there's a TON of movies coming out today on Netflix. Here's the ones I find the most interesting.

• The Hunger Games (2012) - AVAILABLE NOW Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci In a dystopian future ruled by a totalitarian regime, resourceful Katniss and her partner, Peeta, represent their district in the lethal Hunger Games, a televised survival competition in which teenage contestants fight each other to the death. 

• Little Birds (2011) - a surprisingly honest portrait of a girl just looking to escape herselfLily and Alison face a life-changing event after they leave their Salton Sea home and follow the boys they meet back to Los Angeles.

G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra vs. G.I. Joe: Retaliation- A Cast Comparison

   In the new installment of the G.I. Joe movies, we get almost a complete wipe of the cast.  Including one persistent character now being played by a new actor!  There a few spoilers in this post, but nothing that you won’t figure out after 15 minutes of each movie. 

Duke (Channing Tatum) vs. Roadblock (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson): Team Leader
   Tie-  Both are great team leaders and inspire loyalty in their men.  They also both likable on screen.  While Duke has a youthful draw, Roadblock is a kid at heart.  Some of the best scenes in Retaliation are these two together.  Then some things change and Roadblock gets a “field promotion” to lead the team. 

Even More Things Toy Story and The Walking Dead Have in Common

   We originally posted this last week, but there are even more now so we added them and reposted it! It seems like most great things from the internet seem to source from places like Reddit and 4Chan.  Then they pick up steam once they hit Facebook and Twitter.  My buddy Scott shared this image series with me on Facebook that originated on Imgur.  We are big Walking Dead Fans and are looking forward to the Season Finale this week.  You might watch with a different perspective after seeing this though.
