Downton Abbey has been spreading all over and with Season 3 already on the air overseas, many of you have been chomping at the bit for when PBS starts broadcasting it in the US. There are a couple of Guides I found, and I wanted to share with you some of my favorites.
If you are one of our UK readers you can simply go to iTV's (the English broadcaster of Downton Abbey) and watch it from their site. But if you are here in America you get an error, "This Video in not Available to Play in Your Region."
You could use a Torrent site, but it is ill advised for the novice. Torrent sites are notorious for pop-ups, misleading links, and malicious viruses. Here are some of the more secure ways to watch Downton Abbey now instead of waiting until January.
Rachael at Grasping for Objectivity found a program that will help you overcome the region restrictions. It's called Tunnel Bear and I like it just because of the name! You can pay $4.99 a month for unlimited use, but there is also a free option with some limitations.
Quora.com offers a guide on how to purchase the season through iTunes using a UK iTunes Giftcard from eBay. Then change the region of your iTunes to the UK.
If you are not quite sure what Downton Abbey is all about Season 1 is available on Netflix and Seasons 1 and 2 are available on Hulu. It might be time to know what all your friends at work are talking about by the water cooler.
How do you watch Downton Abbey? Are you waiting for January? Let us know how these ideas work for you!

Will you be posting every Monday the link to the latest Downton Abbey episode? I really hope you will!!!!
ReplyDeleteI intend to. I'm all caught up, so now I will be looking for new ones each week.
DeleteI love you!!! Just Sayin'!!
ReplyDeleteJust a warning to you. I posted a blog post about using Tunnelbear and got reamed by someone for piracy. It was the very first time I have received a negative comment. Basically, the BBC and iTV have Terms of Service on their sites that prohibit tunneling. I truly had no idea, but was made to feel that I was a common criminal trying to defraud British TV and that I was completely dishonest. I thought you should know in case they come after you ... :(
ReplyDeleteI prefer to think of myself as Robin Hood, than a pirate.
DeleteI also take the stand that it is a poor move for PBS to delay the US airing of Downton Abbey so they don't have to compete with network TV. If they can see that fans will not stand for an intentional delay, perhaps they will rethink this strategy next season.
I am not alone: http://www.hollywood.com/news/Dear_PBS_Delaying_Downton_Abbey_Is_Crazy/40167954
Oh I agree with you ... Believe me I do! Here is the comment I received: Since the Brits pay a fee for their television and you are not paying the same fee, methods detailed in this blog post are illegal. The fact that you are paying a fee to a third party and not the content copyright holder makes you a pirate and I am old enough to remember what happened in the early 90's with Napster. I wonder how people would feel if a third party was profiting off their blog pots and if they would be so quick to encourage and teach others how to view pirated content.
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say I deleted my post. Just wanted to give you a heads up :)
ps~Robin Hood sounds MUCH better!
episode six not working *sniffles*
ReplyDeleteEpisode 6 is up. There is also a mirror link so that if the first link has all it's views used up, the second should work.
DeleteEpisode 9?
ReplyDelete8 is the end, until the Christmas Special on Christmas Day.
DeleteCurse you short British TV Seasons!
Will you be posting Season 4? I know it premiered today in UK...
